I wrote this strip in part to answer my own concerns over how Narbonics Labs finds the budget to stay operational, when it doesn't seem to accomplish anything beyond torturing Dave and producing amusing but useless scientific curiosities like Artie. So here's an answer. Much, much later in the strip, Helen also mentions that she sold Mell's DNA to a government bioweapons project.

Gah! UNITY! So that's why she's so much like Mell...it all makes sense now...

Is anyone else having an epiphany here? I am.

Also, does anyone know what strip it is where Helen says that? That way we can have the hard evidence.

naw I hope Narbonic and skin horse are in the same universe but diffrent "braneS" (yay half-understood string theroy!) The should crossover but not easily. Skin-horse is MUCH stranger!

My gut feeling is they're the same. Shaenon has read too much Marvel to not crave the occasional crossover action.

My gut feeling is they're the same. Shaenon has read too much Marvel to not crave the occasional crossover action.

I'd like to point out that while Helen DID sell Mell's DNA to bioweapons programs, there's no physical resemblance between Mell and either part of Unity.

While this has the potential to mean nothing, since Unity is apparently capable of cannibalizing other corpses for body parts, it probably makes it less likely that she and Mell are related in any way. At some point she'd have had to replace the parts of her that looked like Mel originally, at least.

Its possible shes has the same killer instinct as Mel, but without the skills. Note: Shes probably had bits blown off her. Something Mel has not had. (as far as we know)
