While at the movies today (saw Bolt in 3D, liked it), the only new trailer I saw was for The Velveteen Rabbit.

Well, a movie calling itself that, and admitting to being "inspired by" the classic story.

Y'see, at some point the boy's tears make the rabbit "real" and cel-animated. And then the boy becomes cel-animated too, and they enter a land of animated imagination. And from there it looks like they're massively ripping off Winnie the Pooh...the Skin Horse almost looks like Eeyore, for instance.

Granted, this could be a Teribithia-style trailer, where the last 5 minutes of the movie account for 90% of the trailer, but it certainly seems like this movie has as much to do with the original story as the Casper Van Diem "Starship Troopers" has to do with the Heinlein novel. :)

On the plus side, maybe this will raise awareness of the original story enough that people won't assume "Skin Horse" is some kind of porn thing.

Actually, I could lose a lot of readers that way.

Dude, way to stomp all over everything and chuck salt on it.

Hollywood, why must you insist on tarnishing all my childhood memories? Actually, the recent "Charlotte's Web" movie was not un-close to the original. Which was nice. But that sort of thing is the exception, lately.
