Claire scowled- these elementals were just as pathetic as she remembered. Light them on fire, slam them with enough force- they were no fun to fight. There was a slightly bigger one over there... She drained her mug and slammed it through the larger elemental, sending a decent part spraying across the floor. The thing shrunk a bit, and turned to attack her. She dodged, smiling slightly. Better.

She threw a chair through it, narrowly missing some people on the other side. Finally! It was big enough that it might actually be somewhat challenging.

-Far, far away from the Drunken Dragon's Flagon-

"Oooh! Ooooh! Now have that guy's drink smash him! And that guy! And have those two burny ones suicide rush at that bunny, just to see what'll happen! This is soo much fun!"

"..."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Comparatively Closer to the Drunken Dragon's Flagon-

The cloaked figure was late. Terribly late. He really ought to have been where he was going days ago. He spurred his horse onward, desperately trying to move as fast as he possibly could. Time was of the essence, after all.

The fact that he was being chased by a rather large group of somewhat brutish creatures was also probably a factor.

He sped on towards Janfort as the night grew later, and the sky grew darker...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-At the Drunken Dragon's Flagon-

The people in the bar had done an extremely vigorous job of fighting the Alcohol elementals, but there didn't seem to be any end of them. Worse yet, someone had gotten the bright idea of burning them, and soon parts of the bar itself had been lit on fire. Barman Stan, who had grown quite proficient in the use of hurled bar glasses as weaponry after years of running a frequently-destroyed intoxicant distribution center, sighed. "Welp. Best get the safe an' the fine silverware."

He turned and walked away from his bar counter into the back room, passing by a number of enormous kegs of old Dwarven Stout he had imported about 5 years ago. They had sold poorly to the distinctly non-dwarven crowd the Flagon typically drew, and were subsequently the some of the oldest intoxicating substances in the bar.

Dooo it! Dooo it!

Then there was a loud cracking sound, and Barman Stan blinked.

A new and terrible entity was rising, as the kegs exploded, one after another, the masses of liquids pooling together to form a horrifying Greater Stout Elemental, one of the most powerful and malevolent forces in the hierarchy of Alcohol elementals. The entity almost encompassed the entire room, two angry bubbles scanning the realm it had been born into. Foaming nastily, it surged into a load bearing wall of the bar, shattering it, as the entire building began to collapse. The Greater Stout Elemental sheepishly realized that it might have made a slight tactical error, as the ceiling fell in on it, causing it to surge outward, sweeping through the front of the bar and catching all the patrons along with it, everyone riding a tide of moderately-magical alcohol safely out to the front of the bar, where the wave of inebriation caught up Amino and Ingrid, pushing them back as well. Sadly, the effects innate to Alcohol Elementals affected whatever the being touched, and by the time it's mass had carried most of the beings out of the building nearly everyone was quite thoroughly inebriated to the point of exhaustion. The only person who had evaded this fate was Jane, who had nonetheless been taken quite by surprise when the building fell in below her and hadn't honestly gotten out of the situation much better. She was also unconscious.

The Greater Stout Elemental reformed itself there, intent on finishing all the people nearby that had been effected by it... only to realize that since it had passed through the building (Which had been partially on fire) that it itself was now on fire. Panicked, it sloshed it's way towards the nearby Tormil Lake, burning itself up before getting even halfway to the source of water that STILL wouldn't have saved it's existence. The creature had been malevolent, but hardly smart.

It was this situation that the mysterious cloaked figure found as he arrived at the Flagon. Dismounting and pulling his hood away from his face, Sir David looked around at the ruined establishment and the pile of people who strongly smelled of spirits. "Huh... odd customs they have in these country villages. I daresay it's likely that I will not be staying here this eve, as planned. Hmm." He sighed, looking around, and then walked back towards his horse, perking up. "Well, no sense dwelling 'pon the darker aspects of this existence! I must hunt for a new place to spend the night. Good day to you, heavily intoxicated villagers!" he started to get back on his horse, when he felt something pointy prodding him in the butt. He turned around and blinked. "Ooooh...right. The creatures that were chasing me. Mayhaps it was not the best of ideas to have sought safety in a small hamlet..." he grinned nervously and raised his arms, as a large band of Speckled-Lizardmen began to sweep along the town of Janfort, looting and pillaging whatever got in their way... but as for the currently incapacitated people they had encoutered... they had other plans for them.

End Introduction

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Act 1: Escape From the Cavern-Fortress of Ancalagon

Claire was perhaps the first to awaken, by a matter of minutes. However, she would have had no way of knowing that: for she was alone, save for several black-scaled reptilian humanoids around her. She was in a dark room, just barely lit by a softly glowing fungus that was growing on the stone walls. There were a large number of almost-appetizing smells in the room itself, and she could see various hunks of uncooked meat hanging in one corner. It looked as if the other creatures were working over stone tables to prepare something involving tomatoes, onions, and mandrake's root. Two exits could be seen in the room, on to the north and one to the east... from the exit on the east, she could faintly hear the clucking of chickens and something loudly baaahing.

Because she felt badly hung-over, it took her a few minutes to realize that she was currently tightly tied to a large wooden pole, dangling a few feet off the ground, without any of her stuff. To make matters worse, she was currently dressed in a slightly stained, somewhat regal pink dress, with a tall, matching pointy hat tied to her head, a faint pink ribbon trailing down from the tip. Whatever had happened to her last night after the bar-fight, she wasn't entirely sure.

The Wizard Tinker's rabbity companion awoke to similar circumstances: it found itself trapped in a small cage made of strong reeds, surrounded by livestock (mostly chickens, but also two sheep) that smelled like the village it had been in the night before in a place that smelled fairly terrible. There was only one exit in the cave it was in, one to the west, and the faint sound of something chopping up something could be heard from that direction, as well as the occasional hiss.

The rest of the night's bar patrons found themselves in a proper dungeon, several rooms to the south of the region where Claire and the bunny had awoken. All of them (save Jane) awoke to throbbing headaches, and all of them awoke to the rather unpleasant sensation of being clapped in chains that were firmly mounted to the cavern wall. A rack was in a nearby corner, which looked flimsy and worn with use, and several other second-hand torture devices seemed to have been arranged nearby but just out of reach, for the group's viewing pleasure. Everyone found that they had lost their equipment and the contents of their backpacks, pouches, etc; but were otherwise left clothed, albeit locked in chains. A group of about 5 black-scaled lizardpeople with long, sharp spears was watching a door to the north, taking the time to occasionally hiss at the prisoners.

Claire slowly opened her eyes. She didn't feel so well... how drunk had she been? She seemed to be tied to a pole. And wearing a pink foofy dress. She closed her eyes. Not again. How drunk had she been? The last thing she remembered was putting a chair through that elemental... was she really that out of practice with the alcohol elementals? How embarrassing.

There was something she was missing... Everything was kind of fuzzy for most of last night, starting at around the time the alcohol elementals attacked. There was something been worried about... But her head hurt and it was hard to think.

She unconsciously flicked one of her ears, then slowly opened her eyes as she remembered. Her locket had broken... and she wasn't wearing that cloak anymore...

Two furry ears sprouted out of the top of her head, and her tail had been tied up along with the rest of her. One looking more closely would note that the pupils of her eyes had become slitted, and that her teeth ended in sharp points.

"@$% $%&! @#$% &!$# !#$& Ow..." The cursing had the two unpleasant side effects of making her head hurt more and letting the lizardpeople know she was awake, which would make a sneaky escape impossible. Oh well.

She didn't have enough slack in the ropes to bend her head to bite them, but her fingertips could just barely reach the ones binding her wrists. She smiled slightly. Something the lizardmen hadn't been able to take away... Claws slide out of her fingertips, cutting her free. Quickly, she cut herself free from the pole, dropping to the ground, where she just managed to land on her feet. Shedding the last of the ropes, she took stock. Hungover, needing food, without her coat, clothes, knives, or ax, and locket broken with no cloak to cover her ears and eyes.

She smiled more broadly. Well, at least she surrounded by a group of lizardmen, who presumably didn't want their sacrifice escaping. She was outnumbered and unarmed. Except for the claws. Moving quickly, she dodged the nearest one's attacks before reaching out to slash it's throat open. *This* would be a good fight.

"Oh yeah well hsss hissss hhsss hiiiiss," said Atrius to the Speckled Lizardmen hissing at them. Occasionally a few Lizardmen would come to town for a drink and to destroy a few public buildings. Atrius didn't know a lot of Lizard-esse, but he did know how to say some very nasty things about their mothers.

He struggled a bit uselessly against his chains for a bit. "Okay, I'm done. Anybody else have ideas on how to escape," he whispered.

Locke opened his eyes slowly. The lights, although dim, hurts his eyes too much. Hmmm loss of memory, cotton mouth, in a dungeon, must have been a usual night then.

locke took a look around. Lizards? Those are not the standard issue guards. I know all the regular guards in the area.

"Oh yeah well hsss hissss hhsss hiiiiss," So there is more then just me stuck in this predicament. Locke looked over to the person next to him.

"Okay, I'm done. Anybody else have ideas on how to escape," The man asked.

"I am working on it." Locke whispered back.

Andrew groggily awoke with a pounding headache, and slowly took stock of his surroundings... every day when he woke up he had to go through with this. Where was he? Why was he there? Did he need to be diving out of a window? And would the local Constable and his friend Mister Big Stick be wishing for a chat?

...well, he was hanging from chains... and he had a headache. And there were lizard men.
"Oh, damn. Although, I must complement the comfortable chains. Most people aren't decent enough to get the sort with the rounded edges." he said, just to see if anyone responded.
Really, he wasn't worried...

Funny thing, though, it was sort fo drafty... almost like he wasn't wearing... his... cloak.
He lowly looked down, seeing nothing but his black suit.

One eye twitched sightly, and he grit his teeth, which suddenly seemed very, very sharp and fangy...
"MY COAT!!!"

-Elsewhere-
Frederik looked around him, idly scratching his ear. His headache was fading fast, due to his quick metabolism... and so he took the time to sniff out his location.
Sheep, chickens, a Lizardman, and chopping noises... did *not* take an idiot to figure out what was going on here.

It was the work of a minute to chew though his cage, and of a second to manage to wiggle out.
He sniffed once, twice, and shut his little eyes to concentrate...

-SHOOP!-
Frederik has gone from 'Bunny' to Humanoid!
Frederik Joins The Party!

Frederik stood up, grumbling to himself and stretching.
"Lord, but that still twinges. Now, where's me Da..."
He stood a little taller than his 'Da' did, with blond hair streaming down to his shoulders in a shaggy mass. He was wearing a light blue and white studded leather coat and pants, with a solid black boots up to his knees and chain mail on under his coat.

He still had wings, which were tucked back, as well as claws, which took the place of any weapons, and also... well... bunny ears.
One can't have everything.

"Roit. First of all..."

Minutes later, a swarm of chickens suddenly tore out of the westward exit, like the fury of teh gods themselves. Teh sheep followed, with baas of rage, and the... as if things hadn;t allready gone wrong...

"FREEEEEEEEEEDOOOOOOOOOM!!!!"

Claire, now covered in a fairly substantial amount of the lizardmen's blood, heard some strange noises from the other room. Suddenly, a flock of chickens burst forth. Food! She dodged the remaining lizardman's attacks and tackled a nearby chicken, quickly breaking its neck. Fresh food! She still didn't feel that great, but as soon as she had some food, she knew she would be fine. And here was a nice fresh chicken, all hers! She started to rip the feathers off, still fighting the lizardman, although not really trying at this point. Either it was scared, or cautious, or perhaps it was that there was only one left.

In almost no time, the chicken was bare. So she started to eat it. Raw. Which was a bit messy, but it was tasty and still warm and she wanted food! Her headache subsided as she scarfed large quantities of chicken. A flock of sheep seemed to have distracted the lizardman. Suddenly, a strange man ran out of the other room. With wings. And... rabbit ears?

A winged rabbit- a creation
Frederik got stuck

What a liar! Covering for one of his friends who was experimenting and couldn't change back... it looked like what ever he had done still hadn't worn off all the way...

But here she was, clearly a nonhuman-

Lizardman forgotten, she tackled the newcomer, trying to knock him out. If that other wizard was around, she might be able to use this one as a hostage to get away safely...

Jane awoke. She took in the situation at a glance. Last night...? First the roof had fallen in, and then.... and now they were captured by these lizard-men. OK. First thing to do... inventory.

Jane tried to bend around and reach her hips, but failed (not hard to do, considering she was hanging from the wall by her arms.) From what she could see (and feel), most of her weapons were gone, if not all of them.

She'd never really had the knowledge or concentration to figure out multi-dimensional storage quasi-spaces, and it seemed the lizard-men had searched her pretty thoroughly. Oh well... maybe the others had fared better.

Jane turned her head, looking at the rest of the people in chains. Oh dear... Lady Viktor was here. She'd hoped to avoid her (especially after tossing that little nugget of misinformation into the conversation last night.) No matter.

Taking a deep breath, Jane said with her perpetual smile, "Hello, everyone... how's it hanging?"

"ooohh," Lady Viktor moans. "I didn't have that much brandy. Slowly opening her eyes, she takes in the chains, torture eqipment, hissing guards, ect.
"Ah, crivins! Again?"
Upon hearing her cousin's cry of rage, she winces. "Must you bellow like that? I have a headache..."
Hmm, she could pick the locks and undo these chains....if her hands were free. And if they weren't being watched by the guards.
A loud rucus is heard, screams of terror and hissing mixed with...odd, sounds almost like...chickens? The guards are understandibly distracted now.
Good.
She has the shephard on her left, and that woman who dropped the tantalizing bit of information on her right. Upon hearing her cheery greeting, the lady smiles terribly. Outwardly friendly, but showing teeth.
"My, my. Do try to stick around for a chat, hmm?"
She turns to the shephard. "Stretch your right arm towards me as much as you can..." She can't reach her own lock, or the lockpick in her hair-if it's still there-but perhaps, just perhaps...
Eyes narrowed in concentration, she attempts to undo his cuff, while the guards are distracted.

"Would you all stop shouting! Secrecy isn't the only reason to whisper here," Atrius said in a hoarse whisper. He hung his head. There were reasons he only had one beer every month.

Rand gave the woman a sour look. " 'How is it hanging'? Not very well, thank you," he grunted, trying to ignore his raging headache. He certainly hadn't drunk that much last night... it must have been the spirits spirits.

The first thing he noticed was that his sword was gone. So was his armor and pack. Hmm.

Twisting his body around, Rand pulled himself up the wall slightly, then used that as leverage to try to pull the chains loose from the wall. They didn't come free, but they did give just a little. It looked like the way to get out of this would involve getting some exercise.

Soon, Rand was doing his own bizarre version of pull-ups, trying to get loose.

"I am not shouting, you are." Locke answered back in a whisper. Locke studied the irons that held him. Thy seemed to be made crudely. This should be easy. Lock wiggled one of hands free. It was a skill he learned after being thrown in the dungeon again and again and again. With one of hands free, h got his last hand out with ease. Then the legs. Lcoke thn turned to the man. "Do you want me to get you out or not?" he whispered.

Jane smiled sweetly at Lady Viktor. "Oh, I'll try," she said. So far, she hadn't seen any way she could get out normally... time to bend the rules a bit.

Closing her eyes, Jane began to speak strange words silently in her head. Focusing on the locks around her, she shaped her thoughts into intentions, then turned them loose.

Both locks opened with a *click!*, and Jane stepped free. First things first: while the guards still weren't paying attention, take inventory. Her hand brushed over various secret pockets and places for hidden weapons. Most were gone. However, they had missed a few... and her lockpicks.

Moving over to the others, Jane began opening the locks of everyone who looked like they needed it.

As Jane reached up and uncuffed Ivan from the wall, he abruptly fell on her. He was barely conscious of the woman, but the fall was completely on purpose. He memorized the feeling pressing against his chest.

"GET OFF ME!!" Jane slapped him into the wall.

His brains rattled slightly as he hit the stone wall, but he remembered the feeling on his abdomen. The slap was just what he wanted, and should have woken him up. He'd known doctors in the army who'd sworn by alcohol. Disinfectant alcohol, alcoholic painkillers, alcohol the sedative. He'd cut open a few of their patients. If he was really as drunk as he felt, his liver should have been hard as rock in places.

But it didn't. In fact, it felt about the same as that of the sober girl he'd landed on. He vaguely remembered the alcohol elementals of last night. That likely meant he had an excess of elemental energy in his system. If he could focus it...

...focusing was becoming difficult again. He needed another slap in the face...

"...C'mon baby, don' be like tha'... We both know ya want me..."

No dice.

Atrius nodded at the man talking to him, only just realizing that he could get out of talking.

Once free he knelt on the floor and ripped strips off of his tunic as quietly as possible. After fashioning the strips into a primitive sling he picked up some stones from the floor.

Not wanting a whooshing noise to draw the notice of the extremely unalert guards he used several single whips of the sling to knock them unconscious with rocks.

"There," he said continuing with his whispering.

"Oh, well done!" Lady V whispers to Atrius. Hmm, mystery woman managed to free herself by concentrating? So-a magic user...interesting.
After being freed, she runs a hand through her hair, and finds her own lock picks-like the ones the woman's using. Hmm, again. The two of them then work swiftly, freeing all who are still chained. That tall stranger actually managed to rip a chain out of the wall-impressive!
Lady V speaks quietly to the egnimatic woman. "we should stick together, at least for now. We may find worse than lizard people before we win free of this place. And what name shall we call you by? True or false as you wish", here Lady V's lips twitch in a brief smile, "but 'twill be better than resorting to 'hey, you!'"
The unconcious guards are soon stripped of their spears. Lady Viktor takes one, as well as helping herself to a nasty looking knife.
"Don't be shy-arm yourselves. There's a few portables among the torture instruments as well-and let's not forget that chain you pulled out of the wall." If he had the strenght to free it, he'll have the strenght to use it.
"Arm youselves quickly, before we rush the other room. That sounded like Frederick's battle cry!"

"That was some fine shooting with that sling. What is your name?" Locke asked in a whisper while he got to work on the lock. The lock was pretty simple and a little rusty. Getting out of irons is pretty easy for Locke, lock picking is not. Locke grabbed one of the iron cuffs and gave the lock a few whacks. The sound was painful. So Locke wrapped the cuff in a piece of cloth and continued whacking. After the 15th hit, the lock broke open. "My name is Locke by the way."

"Oof!" Fredric winced as *something* slammed into him, sending him smack-dab into a wall, followed by his old Friend Mister Floor. He grit his teeth, annoyed by the attack... it would have taken sending him *through* the wall to actiually *hurt* him.

"Ow... wot th' blooddfy tuppin' hell was *that* for?!" he asked, standing up with... whatever it was still clinging onto him.

His Lordship Frederik Zeta Mana Risk Tinker
Brawler/

After a breif tussle, Frederic ended up sitting on Claire's back, growling at her in annoyance.
"WOT! THE! HELL?! Why are you attackin' me?! You're not a goddamn lizardman! An' Oi'm just tryin' t' find my Da!" he snapped, ears twitching agitatedly.

"Well you- Wait, 'Da'?" asked Claire, peering up at him.

"Well, oi mean.. Creator, iffin' ya wanna be specific, but 'es still moi Da! Now c'n i get up, or are you gonna attack me again? Oi don' have long t' find moi Da before th' transform wears off."

-Andrew-
Andrew rubbed his wrists, fury slowly building. No coat, no glasses, and No Frederik... someone was going to pay for this.
"Hmph. Well, at least it sounds like Frederik is okay..." he said, looting the guards of ans many throwable pointy things as he could find, stowing them up his sleeves... somehow.

"Aw, cuz, he can take care of himself." said Emily, patting her cousin's shoulder.

"Oh, I know... but he's still so *young*. Barely seven years old... and he can;t even control his transformations yet!" He tested a dagger by throwing it down teh hall, listening appreciatively to the 'thud' noise that ensued.

Claire struggled for a bit against the strange creation, but he was strong enough to keep her pinned. She gritted her teeth. "Fine. Get up."

"You gonna attack me again?"

"...not immediately." He wasn't going to accept that. "I'm not making any long-term promises. I'll help you find your Da, though." She forced the words out. Maybe he was a creation- he said this would wear off... He got up, a bit reluctantly, and she darted forward and snatched the remains of the chicken that lay on the floor. Ripping off another piece, she stuffed it in her mouth. "Come on." He gave her a strange look. She looked down at the dirty, bleeding chicken, then glared at him. "This one's mine. Get your own." She started to leave the room. "And there's another lizardman somewhere. Just make sure he doesn't kill you."

"Why'd you attack me, anyway?"

She opened her mouth to explain how she thought he was a wizard, then remembered that his Da was one, and thought better of it. She glared at him again. "None of your business." As long as the transformation wore off at the right time, she could probably still use him as a hostage. Unless she found any of her weapons, in which case it would probably be sooner.

"You attacked me! Oi think it's moi business."

She whirled, her ears flat against her skull. "You scared me, ok?! I'm in a weird place, without my coat or any of my weapons, and someone seems to have offered me as a sacrifice *again,* and I don't let anyone do that but my old commander, and it's horribly obvious that I'm not human-" She cut herself off. "Your creator still protects you." She spat the words out bitterly, then returned to tearing apart the chicken as she walked out. She hoped he would still have his creator around after this. Killing a noble and getting his son/creation ticked off at her was not the way she had wanted to start this kingdom... but she needed to find some knives, just to be on the safe side...

Of all the times for her locket to have broken... she would *not* be trapped again, though.

-The majority of the group-

Three more lizardman guards entered the room, apparently having been stationed right outside the torture room. They looked rather pissed.

"Hiss hiss hiss hiss?" (Wait, why did we let them get out of their bindings? It's not even that we didn't notice them with all the noise they were making.) One of the Speckled Black-Scaled Lizardmen looked over at his comrades, tail thrashing in irritation.

"Hiss hiss hissity hiss hiss! His-supah ssstar!" (Aw, we must be the worst prisoner guards ever! Ancalagon's gonna eat us if we don't get them back in their bindings!)

The three expendable lacky-lizards charged at the prisoners, pointing the business ends of their spears at them and preparing to fight.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-In the Kitchen Cave, after one particularly violent melee-

With the aid of flipping-out-feline-Claire and that bunny, the revolutionary army of livestock has successfully dispatched the chef-lizards and conquered the Kitchen cave. A large amount of primative food, some of it more fresh and less likely to be fatal or poisonous than others, lays around you. On the table is a large butcher's knife, as well as a rolling pin.

The Fowl element of the Livestock Revolutionary Army seems more than a little disconcerted to see the large feline-like avatar of chickeny death devouring one of their number. Frederic soon notes that moral among his avian troops seems down. For the moment, peace had come over the group.

And then the wooden door was broken down, as a slightly banged-up Sir David landed on the ground, sliding right next to Claire and Frederic, three Lizardmen guards moving into the room after him. He was holding a plain longsword and wearing nothing more than a slightly bloodied jerkin and some pants. He looked up at the two of them. "Gaaaah! Mammalian beastmen!" Then he blinked. "Wait, mammalian beastmen don't typically inhabit caves, most of their tribes live in the golden plains, on the southern continent and why the heck are you guys even here? Lizardfolk would kill you on sight! My name is-" He decided to lie, for several reasons, "Taren, by the way." As one of the angry lizardfolk guards thrust his spear forward to impale David, he rolled to one side, kicking it from the ground and almost breaking it's snout. "Oh, by the way... have either of you seen a tightly rolled and sealed scroll, or a seashell necklace anywhere around here? I don't mind losing my armor or anything else, but I absolutely can't leave until I find those two things again."

"Atrius," he replied to Locke. Looking up he saw the lizardmen charging the group.

He took a step to the side so as to not hit any one of his current allies.

Fling Clink

He didn't even try to hit their head while they were moving. Tossing hard enough and accurately was difficult and pointless. Atrius had noticed the fact that there were other fighters who had gathered spears.

Instead he hit the lizardmen's armor irritating them.

"Oh fun, spears." Locke readied himself for the charge. The lizards being irritated from the stone strikes will prove useful. At the right moment, Locke side-stepped the incoming spear and manged to steal the spear and knock the lizard off its feet in one fluid motion. The passageway was a little cramp but Locke is an experienced warrior with any pole arm styled weapon. Locke yelled back to Atrius. "You better take care of him while I deal with the rest."

The next lizard was a little more cautious then the first. Locke settled into a defensive posture waiting for the lizard man to make the first move. "Com on short stuff. Bring it on." Locke taunted. The enemy may not understand but he did get the general idea of what he said. By this time the second was accompanied by the 3rd lizard man.

Both lizards attacked at once. Although their movements were coordinated, Locke was much better. Locke kept on the defensive, using the fight to warm up a bit and to get a feel about how these lizard men fight. After a couple of minutes Locke changed from defensive to offensive.

He dodged a thrust ans swung the butt end of the spear in a high arc that hit the lizard man in the head. The lizard man stumbled into the other and collapsed into a heap. Locke whacked them both with the stick part till none where moving.

He turned back to Atrius and smiled. "How about we get out of here. Even with my hangover these were push overs, but that does not guarantee the next one we meet will."

"Sorry, haven't seen them." Claire darted forward and snatched the spear from one of the lizardmen while he was focused on Taren. It was nice to have something with a little bit more range than her claws, and she wasn't that used to fighting with them anyway- she tended to keep them hidden except for emergencies. It was annoying, but it was better to pretend to be human. She dodged the lizardmen's attacks as she thought. "Hey, Taren, you help this guy find his Da, and I'll help you find this scroll whatever, ok?" With a bit of luck, she wouldn't run into the wizard at all, but even if she did, if Taren wanted her help, she would have to be free. She hoped.

"By the way, you want me to kill the lizardmen or something?" He seemed to be doing fine on his own, and there were only three of them, but he also seemed to be taking his time, and the rabbit-creature had made it sound like he was in a hurry. And fighting lizardmen was fun, so he might resent her for taking him away from a fight. Maybe that was why he was taking his time.

"My name? It's Jane," Jane called out. At this, Rand perked up.

"Jane?" he said, looking at her. Obviously, she matched the description he had been given. "I should let you know that I'm not going to do anything now-- we need to get out of here-- but once we are safe again, I should let you know that my client has tasked me to bring you back to her."

"What," said Jane, teasingly, "did your client seriously think they needed someone like you to bring back little old me?"

"Yes. My client also mentioned that I would most likely have to drag you."

Jane shut up, a little stunned. Blow cover on one job, just one... jeez. It was enough to make her lose her faith in humanity.

Looking around, she moved into the shadows, hiding through ease of long practice. You never knew when having someone hidden could give a crucial advantage...

Blood...

...

Blood was a good thing at the moment. Blood made things real, made them serious. He went from a skull full of slugs to a sea of sharks at the scent of blood...

(Ivan makes his Knowledge check as /Ranger)

Lizardmen?! And we're still alive!? Of course...

"You are what you eat" is the closest thing to a religion these creatures have. Must have something to do with their origins as lizards who ate magically tainted meat. They won't eat anything tainted by alcohol or other poisons. And their law requires that they eat whatever they kill.

They need us alive, at least a few days to ensure that we're pure. That won't stop the warbeast, though. They like their meals to be strong animals, the more fearsome, the "healthier." Through that door and down a tunnel would be the most blood-thirsty thing they haven't eaten yet, hopefully still tied to the post. If all else fails, they'll release the warbeast and eat it, after it eats us...

...Worse, that light red lambda shape on their gear means that these are the "Slipper" tribe of lizardmen. They got their hides whupped by a "captive" princess, and now took her as their battle totem. Which meant he was about to be eaten by the most vicious beast they could stuff into the pink dress she'd ditched at the earliest opportunity. Joy...

He decided to lay his head back down until it stopped spinning. The others could handle it for now. If the geckos remembered they could climb walls and drop down from the ceiling... Meh. He'd probably be sober by the time that happpened.

He smiled. "Oh, thank you ma'am! I've always said you can rely on the kindness of people you meet in caves! Which, incidentally, might be the reason I'm in this situation in the first place..." A lizard man jabbed at him again, and he rolled away and kicked it firmly between the legs. "Of course I'll help! As a p-, ah, I mean, it'd just be common decency to help out people in need... just tell me what his Da looks like and I'll help him find it!" He pushed himself up and thrust forward with his blade, impaling one lizardman guard, the creature hissing it's last before slumping forward. Twitching his blade to the right, he flung the reptilian corpse into another one of it's compatriots, distracting it enough to let him get back to his feet. The third one turned on him and pierced his shoulder with the spear it had, prompting him to grunt in pain. Swinging his blade, he snapped the wooden shaft of the spear in half, the tip still inside him, and slashed at the lizardman, causing it to stumble backwards, a jagged slash across it's snout.

The other lizardman, who had recovered from having a corpse hurled at it, snarled at Claire, baring it's fangs, as it darted forward and grabbed onto the spear she had stolen from it. As the two of them became locked in a tug-of-war over the implement of violence, it snapped at her, trying to bite at her fingers/paws.

Claire considered. It seemed that it would be most practical to kill the lizard first, then retrieve the spear. She tugged particularly hard, then rammed the spear forward into the lizardman, twisting it suddenly. Her foot shot out, knocking the lizardman to the ground, and she tackled it, her elbow hitting it under the jaw and wedging there so that it couldn't bite her. Her head slammed into his stomach, knocking the breath out of him as she jerked back just in time to avoid his being grabbed.

Which was where he made his mistake. As he momentarily let go of the spear to try to get a hold of one of her ears, she manged to wrench it out of his grasp and flip it around, cutting into his torso. It wasn't a fatal wound, but it distracted him long enough that she could slash his throat open. She pried the spear out of his fingers and stood up, grinning and feeling a bit better about the whole situation. Now she was armed. She had the spear, and at some point the butcher knife on the table had 'vanished.'

She looked at her claws, and decided that lizardman blood tasted too nasty to warrant cleaning them the usual way, so she searched around and eventually found a spot on the dress that didn't have *too* much blood on it, and wiped them off. As she did, she addressed Taren. "Sure, sounds good. Um... he's tallish... and has black hair... and he can do magic and he's a Lord..." That probably wasn't that helpful. "Uh... Human..." She turned to the rabbit. "What does your Da look like, anyway?" As the rabbit described his Da, she considered Taren. He seemed odd for someone in a lizardmen's cave, although she couldn't quite place why.

Although he wasn't odd in a way that made her think she should kill him, which was pretty strange in and of itself. She would wait, she decided, and see if he would help her against the wizard. Although she thought she had a way to keep the wizard from nabbing her...

His face fell. "Oh... umm. His dad isn't another beastman? That's... strange" So the bunny-creature's father was some sort of Lord. That was troubling. He had been trying to keep a low profile and avoid anyone recognizing who he was ever since he had been sent on this task. It was why he had procured that mysterious cloak from a tailor before he had left. And since he was a diplomatic envoy and had been for a few years now, he had been in a LOT of castles. It was more likely that someone from one of the aristocratic families of any given nation would recognise him than anyone else. Still, he had promised he'd help... and he was already going to be in trouble for lying. He sighed and wished he still had his mysterious cloak. At least it wasn't likely that anyone would recognise him; he rarely stayed in any given place for longer than a week when he was traveling. Plus, he was pretty sure he'd have remembered a Lord with an adopted beastman son. He perked up a bit again. "Ok then! If they're here, it's likely that they're in some sort of prison chamber... I don't think it'd be that far from here."

He could hear the sounds of another battle from a bit in the distance. "I'm going to guess that has something to do with it. Come on!" he started leading the three of them out the door, towards the direction of the Prison Chamber where the rest of the group was. Leading them along a corridor lined with lizardman bodies, which he politely apologized for, he made small talk. "I guess he-" he looked over at Frederic "-must be a wizard's creation or something like that. It makes sense. I don't think I've ever heard of a rabbitman before. Really amazing! So are you one too, or are you from one of the feline tribes of the Golden Plains? I've met one or two of them, but they're pretty rare in these parts. I've always wanted to go visit the southern continent someday, but I keep pretty busy. What are the Golden Plains like?"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Meanwhile-

These members of the "Slipper" tribe of lizardmen knew when they were beat. The one surviving member turned tail and began to run out the door from the strangely superior prisoners. Taking a moment, he turned at the doorway and glared back at them. "You no win! Ancalagon devour you for insolence!" It hissed and bared it's fangs before running down the corridor, trying to leap past Fredric, David, and Cliare on all fours.

Meanwhile, Atrius became vaguely aware that something was amiss. In his head, he could hear a faint buzzing, something so dim as to barely be noticible at all. Yet for some reason it was starting to get slowly louder, and he almost felt like he could make out words in the buzzing...

"Feline tribes? Golden plains?" Claire blinked, confused. "You mean there are more cats like me somewhere?" She wasn't sure how she felt about that... somewhere she wouldn't have to keep the locket on all the time- and it itched, slightly- but she wasn't a real cat-person. She wasn't a real person at all. She wondered how the felines kept from being captured when they traveled. Most places, she had found that no one would help a imprisoned feline creature, unless they wanted it as a pet. Her tail twitched slightly, betraying her anger, before she remembered what they were talking about. "What are those cats like?"

A lizardman ran down the corridor and attempted to leap past her. Unfortunately, she was still carrying the spear, and once it was in the air, it couldn't change direction. It made a wet shlunking noise as it's momentum carried it onto the spear she held out at the last instant. She pushed the lizardman off the spear with her foot, still focused on Taren. "When was the last time you saw one of them? How did it travel? Do they fight a lot?"

The fight ended, but Atrius began to hear a buzzing. He listened, there are words. Concentrating, he tried to make them out through the fog their presence created. (This had better not be some sort of hangover hallucination.)
