Recently, I noticed that Sarah Ellerton, the artist of the most remarkable and good-looking webcomic The Phoenix Requiem, is accepting commissions. That reawoke an idea I've had for some time:

Wouldn't it be cool if the MSW had a cast picture or poster of some sort?

As such, I'm idly mulling over the idea of requesting a commission of such a poster, and I wanted everyone else's opinion on the plan. The most obvious thing I should mention is that there is a catch: Given the rates she lists, I'm pretty sure such a work would cost at least $200, if not more, and I could not afford it on my own. So, if this idea were to advance beyond the 'idea' stage, I'd have to ask for others to chip in.

What are your opinions? Is it worth it?

Her art is indeed beautiful. But a cast page doesn't sound possible. Not at 150$ for a scene, 50$ for each addition character, and 250$ for a three person scene, quoting from her price list. That gets us a digital file we can download, I see.
If we did characters, who would we choose? Would we all split the 150$ basic cost, and then each person who wants a character pay an additional 50$?
If we just want a nifty MSW logo style poster, that would be more affordable. I don't know, SIB....it sounds lovely, but it depends how much money it costs.

But if we want a cast page style poster, I nominate paying our own Demo to draw one. He has a flair for the characters. This may not be practical-it would be a time consuming project.

Do you think I had the 1st idea what a squidhole was when I invented it? Certainly not! I was just messing about! That's when the very best & very Maddest Science gets done. I thought,Why, this alabaster octopus looks like it wants a nice transmission inside it,& fairly soon I had a thing that obviously had a Use, though what that Use could be was a total mystery.
(Sameness Engine) I haven't the 1st notion of what it's for! That's not why I made it-I made it for the sheer joy of making something new! It's getting up to tell me what it wants me to do, though, I can just feel it. It's been giggling a lot at night.

I second chic- a cast poster would be cool, but I suspect with our collective financial state, even chipped together this would be a little firvolus... and Demos rather our official artist in residence for Rather Cool Drawings. And hell, if we;re up to paying someone, maybe someone we know... :D
